Know When to Fold ‘em…

A co-worker has been teaching me the art of origami.  Wanting to see how far this art form could go, I found two designers from Paris who are creating origami jewelry creations.

The designers, Clair and Arnaud were initially introduced to the Japanese art form from their friend Masayuki Muraki.  Eventually they developed a collection of earrings using thread and paper.  Silver and gold were not far behind, and they soon began producing the collections in Japan.  Read more about Clair and Arnaud’s story here.

Noir is Beautiful…

Today, while thumbing through this month’s Harper’s Bazaar, I came across an amazing statement piece by Proenza Schouler. When thinking about what I liked most about it, I realized it was simply the color. The other design elements are gorgeous and delicate, but it’s the pure ebony brilliance of it that I found so compelling. My other forays into the sable set this month (black music history month) include the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack and my favorite song, hands down is Black Sheep by Metric. All that being said…don’t be afraid of the dark!

Proenza Schouler necklace. Price: $695

This is how I see the necklace being worn. (Thank you Photoshop!) I would love it with one of the bright colors of the season. Dress by Ports 1961 originally shown in Sapphire blue.

Love the use of a black chandelier! I would definitely use one in a very feminine room with blush or white tones.

The juxtaposition of the white flowers (my favorite) in a black vase. Clean and beautifully dramatic with the contrast.

Happy Founder’s Day!!

In honor of my sorority being founded on this day in 1908, I decided to showcase some pretty pink and green jewelry!  I know I should be sleeping but I just couldn’t help myself.  Pink and green because they are the colors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.  I also put in a beautiful pearl tassel necklace because we are known for our love of our 20 pearls!

And just in case my dad is reading this…I didn’t forget about you!  Happy Birthday Dad!!

Bonsoir!

I arrived into Paris this afternoon and it has been nonstop since meeting up with my sister and mother.  Although we have about 6 days here, we have an entire list of things to do before we head back to our real lives and jobs.  This evening we went strolling around the Montmartre and we came across some cute shops with plenty of jewelry.  It looks like Parisians love to accessorize!  Below are some pictures that I was able to snap this evening.  I hope to have plenty more to share with you all as the trip progresses.
